Director of Conformity Assessment Programs
UL Solutions
Steven Margis serves as Director of Conformity Assessment Programs for UL Solutions. In this capacity, he is responsible for Program and Policy Management of UL operated Conformity Assessment Schemes globally. His decorated career began with UL Solutions over 35 years ago where he has served in numerous capacities related to global market access initiatives. He has strong foundational beliefs in a strategic approach to global conformity assessment targeted at streamlining market access and acceptance as well as the concept of national treatment for conformity assessment service providers. In his career, Mr. Margis has focused on strategy, governance, compliance, new service development and operational efficiencies in the field of conformity assessment. Outside of UL Solutions, he currently serves in the role of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Vice President and Conformity Assessment Board (CAB) Chair while previously serving in the IEC role of IECEE Chair. Additionally, Mr. Margis serves as the Chair of the ANSI Joint Task Force on Conformity Assessment.
Throughout his career, Mr. Margis has been a prolific contributor and influencer in his field and an active voice in the community via his participation and leadership in the IEC, ISO CASCO, USNC, ANSI and the TIC Council among others; a subject matter expert with international governmental officials, regulators and scheme owners; and a speaker on the subject of conformity assessment at global forums.
Mr. Margis earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI USA and is an ambassador for the education of STEM and safety related skills to K-12 students through serving as a FIRST® volunteer (firstinspires.org).
