About ASCET

The goal of the ASCET Center of Excellence is to create and maintain a U.S. Center of Excellence to support U.S. engagement in international standardization for critical and emerging technologies (CETs) that are essential to U.S. economic competitiveness and national security.

ASCET will focus on four broad areas:

  • pre-standardization engagement;
  • workforce capacity building;
  • a collaborative pilot program with NIST in CETs; and
  • creating an information and data sharing hub.

  • Broadening and diversifying U.S. stakeholder engagement;
  • Cultivating a new generation of subject matter experts participating in standardization;

  • Accelerating the development and implementation of impactful, industry-driven international standards derived from any relevant forum

Innovation Accelerator

ASCET creates pathways that move emerging technologies from research and development to internationally competitive products by fostering creative, agile, and collaborative approaches across metrology, standards, and conformity assessment to ensure innovations can succeed in international markets.

Expanded Engagement in Standardization

Intentionally broaden U.S. participation in standardization by mobilizing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), emerging innovators, and other underrepresented groups—expanding the depth and breadth of the U.S. voice in international standardization.

Collaboration Across the Standardization Ecosystem

Work in partnership with ANSI, U.S. standards organizations, academia, government, and industry—supporting, not duplicating, existing coordination efforts, and fostering connections to align national priorities and international impact

Develop and sustain a pipeline of U.S. experts—through education, engagement, and mentorship—and advocate for the strategic importance of standardization as a foundation for economic security, competitiveness, and technological leadership.

  • Provides tools and strategies to streamline pre-standardization efforts;

  • Fills ecosystem-wide gaps to give U.S. industry a strategic edge in international standards arenas.
